part time Marketing and Communications Intern

at Family Equality Council in Massachusetts-Boston

Job Description:

Family Equality Council interns develop skills in three key areas: event planning, research and writing, and nonprofit management/operations. Working on projects that involve each of these broad advancement areas, the Marketing and Communications Intern will support the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Advancement team and Family Equality Council’s goals and objectives. Additionally, the Marketing and Communications Intern will work with other interns and staff on projects that relate to communications areas and support the overall work and function of Family Equality Council.

Departmental Projects include:

* Supporting/staffing Boston Pride, Saturday, June 13th (if available) * Contributing to Family Week and other event preparation (e.g. materials) * Participating in nonprofit management/professional development opportunities (e.g. staff/department meetings)

Communications Projects include:

* Blogging

o Contributing at least two originally written posts per week (subject to supervisor edits/approval)
o Posting blogs written by other staff as needed
o Creating/executing on outreach strategy for existing and potential contributors
o Ensuring that associated blogs list/feature Family Equality Council; expanding list/link exchanges
o Moderating comments/ads

* Media Research

o Monitoring press coverage for FEC and LGBT family/relevant issue mentions
o Reaching out to LGBT parents/allies featured in press
o Updating media lists

* Web 2.0

o Managing current Family Equality Council Facebook and Twitter accounts; outreach to new members
o Researching web 2.0 platforms/opportunities; making recommendations for FEC involvement

* Marketing

o Outreach to websites/organizations that do not list or list incorrectly FEC as a resource
o Other projects to be determined based on need

* Higher-level Skills Development: Basic website edits/html; Kintera database/eblasts; press releases
