TRANSGENDER JUSTICE FELLOWSHIP
POSITION OVERVIEW
Basic Rights Oregon seeks one part-time Transgender Justice Fellow beginning in November 2009 and continuing through November 2010. The Transgender Justice Fellow reports to the Field Manager.
The Transgender Justice Fellowship is an entry level, organizer-in-training position. The Fellow is responsible for building and mobilizing diverse volunteer teams, planning and executing volunteer trainings, and working to support a campaign for accessible health care for transgender Oregonians. The position will involve regular in-state travel and will receive significant support in developing and carrying out their work.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous student, issue, electoral, community or labor organizing experience
- Commitment to social justice, especially to ending homophobia and transphobia, and to working across lines of identity
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and work as part of a fast-paced team; and to prioritize and manage a variety of projects simultaneously
- Computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Commitment to building a multi-racial team; experience working in multi-racial environments
- Comfortable speaking to small and large groups
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Driver?s license, ability to travel, and ability to work evenings and weekends
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruit, train, mobilize and mo?ivate a diverse pool of activists, and manage volunteer teams
- Maintain administrative systems necessary to track volunteer participation
- Coordinate transportation, logistics, and recruitment for statewide volunteer events
- Seek out and attend community events and meetings, primarily on evenings and weekends
- Travel across Oregon to engage volunteers
- Prepare written weekly and quarterly work plans and progress reports
- Perform other duties as assigned
COMPENSATION
Part-time, hourly wage.
