Executive Director of the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project
The Kansas City Anti-Violence Project (KCAVP) is committed to providing domestic violence, sexual assault and hate crimes advocacy and education to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
Currently, there are no other agencies providing support and services to LGBT victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and hate crimes in western Missouri, eastern Kansas, with a focus on the Kansas City area.
The ideal candidate will be a person with vision, an effective communicator who can carry the KCAVP mission to the community at large, and possess solid personnel and project management skills.
Responsibilities:
- Personnel management: Hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff.
- Financial management: Facilitate organizational accounting including facilitating accounts receivable, accounts payable, monthly and yearly financial statements, annual audit and budget preparation.
- Budget: Effectively manage annual budget of $250,000.
- Grants management: Ensure proper accounting and billing of grant funds from both private donors and governmental agencies.
- Grant writing: Identify, prepare, submit and shepherd grant proposals to foundations and governmental agencies and cultivate major donors.
- Maintain high level of respect of the organization within the fundraising community.
- Public relations / media: Establish and execute public relations/media programming. This includes public speaking and written press releases.
- Fundraising: Work with board of directors to create and facilitate fundraising initiatives including major donors, memberships, business support and special event planning.
- Stakeholder development: Maintain and cultivate community agency and service provider relationships.
- Board support: Communicate with board of directors on needed policies, practices and issues that require appropriate consideration and action.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of arts / bachelor of science or sufficient experience with appropriate knowledge and skills.
- Two years management experience as an executive director, manager, chief financial officer, public relations director, development director, or program director.
- Proficiency required in Windows based programs (Microsoft Office), financial management programs (preferably QuickBooks Pro) and online databases (preferably Salesforce).
- Strategic planning and implementation experience.
- Successful fundraising experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated public/media relations experience is preferred.
- Solid understanding of and empathy for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender needs and issues involving domestic violence, sexual assault and hate crimes.
- Demonstrated advocacy for the LGBT community is preferred.
- Experience in working in a domestic violence program or sexual assault agency is desired.
- Ability to work across all ethnic, racial, cultural and socioeconomic demographics.
- Job requires some inter-city, weekend or overnight travel.
