Transgender Services Coordinator (F/T)

Position Summary:
The Long Island GLBT Community Center (The Center) is seeking a F/T Transgender Services Coordinator who will be responsible for the delivery of Long Island Transgender Experiences (LITE) services. This includes planning and delivering a variety of support services for Long Island’s Transgender communities such as community education programs to schools, hospitals and health and human service organizations, and an array of cultural programming as well. This 40 hour per week position reports directly to the Director of Programs.
This is an incredibly rewarding and fun job for a creative and passionate person who wants to use their skills to help the Transgender and GLB communities through innovative direct service programming to advance safety, equality and justice. The individual should be willing to think outside the box in terms of programs and events, particularly around participation and organizing. This position will require some evening and occasional weekend hours.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
*Modify existing workshops and deliver community education and training workshops to raise awareness of transgender communities and to decrease levels of transphobia and transphobia-related behaviors.
*Facilitate existing three support groups for transgender communities, friends and family.
*Facilitate existing cultural program ‘Transgender Voices & Visibility’ on third Saturday of each month to encourage more diverse representations of transgender experiences.
*Deliver mental health and support services for the transgender community, including counseling program, crisis intervention and referrals, and case management.
*Other tasks specific to eliminating transphobia and transphobia-related behavior as assigned.
Essential Position Requirements:
*Masters Degree in counseling, social work, psychology, public health or equivalent preferred. Bachelors Degree in related field required.
*Experience with group facilitation, especially groups dealing with trauma and discrimination
*Experience in creative program development, especially in suburban and rural communities.
*Experience in community collaboration, and collaborations within The Network.
*Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
*Able to manage multiple tasks/responsibilities well and work in a fast-paced environment.
*Must be sensitive to issues of diversity, including race, class, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity.
